Doha: Winners of the 10th Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding are set to be crowned next Tuesday.
A cultural symposium will be organized in conjunction with the annual award ceremony, bringing together a distinguished group of leading professionals in the fields of Translation and cultural exchange, both to and from the Arabic language. The symposium will be held under the theme of from Arabic to humanity: a decade of Translation and dialogue of civilizations
The first session of the symposium is moderated by Professor of Modern Philosophy and History of Science at the University of Tunis El Manar, Professor Youssef Ben Othman, and will address Translation from and to the Arabic language: reality and prospects., with the participation of the Moroccan translator and academic, Dr. Hassan Helmi, Associate Professor of Arabic Language and Linguistics and Translation at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, Dr Ruba Khamam, Professor in the Translation Department at the University of Malaga, Spain, Dr. Salvador Pena Martin, Professor and Head of the Arabic Language Department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea, Yunjeong Yang.
The second session will discuss the role of the award in promoting the quality standards of Translation and ways to advance this role, with the participation of president of the International Forum for Turkish-Arab Dialogue, Turkish translator, Arshad Hormozlu, professor and head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Kuwait, Dr. Al Zawawi Bagoura, professor of English Literature at Ain Shams University, translator Dr. Shukri Mujahid, professor of Philosophy at the University of Dhi Qar in Iraq, and Dr. Ali Hakim Saleh, and moderated by Dr. Khalid Aran, director of the Research Center for History, Arts, and Islamic Culture in Turkiye.
10th Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding has selected the French language as a key second language, alongside English, with Balochi, Tatar, Hungarian, and Yoruba languages being selected in the category of less widely spoken languages.
