It's the season of biggies! Three big-budget flicks from the Tamil, Kannada and Hindi film industries are all set to clash at the box office this April. Thalapathy Vijay's Beast, Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 and Shahid Kapoor's Jersey will hit the theatres next month. While Beast releases on April 13, KGF: Chapter 2 and Jersey will grace the cinemas on April 14. Will the three films eat into each other's collection? We spoke to industry expert Ramesh Bala who shared interesting insights about the big clash.
SS Rajamouli's RRR is all set to release in theatres on March 25. Nearly three weeks later, the Indian box office will see the three most-awaited films clashing. Theatre owners, producers and exhibitors are extremely happy as fans will throng to the theatres to watch the films. IndiaToday.in spoke to trade analyst Ramesh Bala to get insights about the box-office performance of the three films.
Since Thalapathy Vijay's Beast is releasing on April 13, the film has a slight edge over the other two. Ramesh Bala said, "Beast will enjoy a solo release in South India since it is releasing on April 13. We have to see how the distributors program the film's release in North India. Beast's performance in North India depends on word of mouth. As of now, Beast will perform moderately in the North circuit. Also, the film will have one whole day to itself - this will help the film at the box office."
Since Thalapathy Vijay and Yash enjoy a huge fan following across the country, it could affect the box office collection of Shahid Kapoor's Jersey. However, Ramesh Bala has a different take.
He said, "In 2019, Rajinikanth's Petta and Ajith's Viswasam clashed at the box office. Both films did well at the box office. It's the same for these three films. Since the three films belong to different languages, the stars have their own fan following, which will help the theatrical run."
Speaking about Jersey, Ramesh said, "When it comes to the Tamil Nadu box office, Jersey will work in multiplexes. Beast, KGF: Chapter 2 and Jersey will dominate the box office in specific regions. In Karnataka, KGF: Chpater 2 will sweep the collection. Beast will dominate in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Similarly, Jersey will perform well in the North belt. The all-India box office can easily accommodate the three films. Since it's a long weekend due to Tamil New Year and Good Friday, it will help the performance of Yash, Beast and Jersey."
Ramesh Bala also iterated that there will be a problem only when the films belong to the same industry.
