After many areas were inundated in Bengaluru due to heavy rain, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that merciless action will be taken against properties blocking the flow of rainwater.
Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that the state government has decided to take 'merciless' action against properties blocking the flow of rainwater. He said the Disaster Management Act permits 'merciless removal' of blocks causing water stagnation.
"We have decided to mercilessly remove properties blocking rainwater flow. The Disaster Management Act permits merciless removal of blocks causing water stagnation.We don’t have to give notice to anyone also. Our Municipal Corporation officers have identified 10 bottlenecks and in a day or two, the demolition drive will start. We have told the officers that while implementing the drive, do not attend to any phone calls,"Revenue Minister R Ashoka said.
The statement of the BJP leader came after many areas in the capital city Bengaluru were inundated due to heavy rain.
The state government will take a call on the matter on Thursday, September 1, as a few layouts and buildings are built over storm water drains are blocking the water flow, leading to waterlogging in the city. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will visit these areas today and is likely to announce a few measures.

On Wednesday, a high-level meeting was chaired by the chief minister to take stock of the flood situation.
Chief Minister Bommai said there was waterlogging in many residential layouts because the developers did not build a proper drain. He added that all such blocks would be removed.
