Kamal Haasan's Vikram surpassed Baahubali 2's five-year-long box-office record in Tamil Nadu a few days ago. Can Rajinikanth's upcoming film Jailer beat this? Industry experts weigh in.
Kamal Haasan's Vikram, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is setting the box office on fire even in its third week. The film surpassed Baahubali: The Conclusion's record in Tamil Nadu and is now the highest-grossing film in the state. This is an incredible achievement, especially given that Baahubali 2 has held that record for five years now. Will Rajinikanth's upcoming film, Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, be able to beat Vikram?
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram features Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles. The film hit the theatres on June 3 in multiple languages and is having a fantastic run at the box office. Recently, Vikram broke the five-year-long record of Baahubali 2 in Tamil Nadu. It took five years for a Tamil film to achieve this milestone in the homeland.
Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai pointed out that Baahubali 2 made a whopping Rs 152 crore. Now, Vikram grossed Rs 155 crore (with Rs 80 crore share) in 17 days to dethrone Baahubali 2.

In 1989, Kamal Haasan's Apoorva Sagodharargal held the record for the highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu. Six years later, Rajinikanth's Baasha came to claim the spot. 33 years later, Kamal Haasan once again claimed the no 1 spot. Over the years, Rajinikanth, Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith's films have achieved this record.
After Kamal Haasan's Vikram, Superstar Rajinikanth is coming up with his next outing, Jailer, with Nelson Dilipkumar. All eyes are on Jailer as Rajinikanth and Nelson badly need a superhit venture to redeem themselves. Will Jailer dethrone Vikram in Tamil Nadu?
