Director General of Police C. Sylendra Babu has said that checks would be intensified at State borders to prevent smuggling of ganja into Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Babu visited Salem on Thursday and conducted review of districts under the Salem range and the City Police at the District Police Office.
Mr. Babu told presspersons that additional check-posts would be set up in borders and checks would be intensified to prevent smuggling of ganja and other contraband goods into the State. Interacting with police personnel, he reviewed preventive measures and drives conducted by the police in the districts.
The DGP reviewed measures taken under Ganja 2.0 drive in the respective police limits and detaining ganja peddlers under the Goondas Act. He also reviewed measures taken to maintain law and order, preventing crimes against women and children, preventing sale of gutkha, de-addiction therapy for students who are addicted to drugs, measures taken to prevent road accidents and creating awareness among the public on cyber crimes.
Salem City Police Commissioner Najmul Hoda, Praveen Kumar Abhinav, DIG-Salem Range, Superintendents of Police M. Sree Abhinav (Salem), Saroj Kumar Thakur (Krishnagiri), Kalaiselvan (Dharmapuri), and Sai Charan Tejaswi (Namakkal), Deputy Police Commissioners, ADSPs and DSPs took part in the review meeting.
The DGP also advised officials on hearing grievances of police personnel and addressing them and providing them with weekly offs. The DGP also presented appreciation certificates to police personnel.
