In view of declining Covid-19 cases, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority is likely to discuss lifting of the night curfew, along with other relaxations, including reopening of schools, gyms and spas.
Amid a growing chorus to lift night curfew and reopen schools in the national capital, the Delhi government will hold a key meeting on Friday to take a call on whether to further ease Covid-19 restrictions.
In its meeting later today, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will review the Covid-19 situation in the city. It is also likely to discuss lifting of the night curfew, along with other relaxations, including reopening of schools, gyms and spas.
The meeting comes as Delhi witnesses a steady decline in daily Covid-19 cases and test positivity rate. On Thursday, the national capital reported 2,668 fresh infections and 13 fatalities, while the positivity rate dropped to 4.3 per cent. Cases have been on a downward trajectory after touching the record high of 28,867 on January 13.
The DDMA, in its last meeting in January, scrapped weekend curfew and allowed bars and restaurants to function at 50 per cent of their seating capacity.
Night curfew was imposed in Delhi on December 28 last year as the Omicron variant spurred Covid-19 cases. At present, no non-essential movement of people and vehicles is allowed in the city from 11 pm to 5 am.
