The wildfire burning at the edge of Fort Good Hope, N.W.T., grew significantly overnight, N.W.T. Fire said in a 10 a.m. MT update, but has not yet burned any structures.
At last update, the fire had grown from a few hectares in size on Saturday to 1,300 hectares — but is much larger than that now, N.W.T. Fire said.
Fire crews worked in shifts overnight to keep it at bay. On Monday, N.W.T. Fire said it expects winds to push the wildfire away from the community for much of the day.
Crews are working to establish control lines on the west flank of the fire facing the community. Four more fire crews are on their way, and structure protection was set up Sunday night. More structure protection is expected to be set up Monday.
The update comes as the N.W.T. government is set to give a public wildfire briefing at 12 MT. Fort Good Hope Chief Collin Pierrot, Environment and Climate Change Minister Jay Macdonald and Municipal and Community Affairs Minister Vince McKay are expected to be in attendance.

The leader of Canada's Green Party had some strong words for Nova Scotia's Progressive Conservatives while joining her provincial counterpart on the campaign trail. Elizabeth May was in Halifax Saturday to support the Nova Scotia Green Party in the final days of the provincial election campaign. She criticized PC Leader Tim Houston for calling a snap election this fall after the Tories passed legislation in 2021 that gave Nova Scotia fixed election dates every four years.
