Die offizielle Buchmesse war abgesagt, die von 60 unabhängigen Verlagen improvisierte Pop-up-Buchmesse in Leipzig war ein Ereignis. Büchertische wie vor 50 Jahren, Besucherandrang und Gespräche verraten etwas über die Relevanz der Literatur. Und dann sind da diese komischen Gerüchte.
Alle Verlage sind gleich, so der urdemokratische Impetus der Veranstaltung. Freilich sind nach Orwell manche gleicher als die anderen, so haben Suhrkamp, Hanser oder Klett-Cotta drei überquellende Tische zur Verfügung, während andere sich noch einen teilen müssen: Imprints wie die Hobbit Presse oder, horribile dictu, Insel machen sich auch bei der Platzverteilung bezahlt. Das ist der Lohn dafür, dass sich solche Mittelgrößen mit den vielen Kleinen solidarisch zeigen und ein rein ökonomisch unrentables Projekt unterstützen, das als Trotzreaktion und auch als Tritt vors Schienbein der Konzernverlage zu verstehen ist.
