Suryakumar Yadav achieved the feat during the 3rd T20I, when he scored 76 off 44 balls to help India beat West Indies by 7 wickets and regain the lead 2-1 in the 5-match series.
Suryakumar Yadav surpassed Rishabh Pant to register the record for highest men's T20I score hit by an Indian against West Indies in the Caribbean.
The top-order batter achieved the feat during the third T20I against West Indies, which India won by seven wickets and one over to spare. While chasing 165 runs to regain the lead in the five-match series, Suryakumar smashed 76 off 44 balls to guide India home. Along the way, he moved past Rishabh Pant, who held the record after scoring 65 not out in 2019.
India restricted West Indies to 164/5, with Kyle Mayers hitting 73 off 50 balls after being put into bat. In reply, India suffered a blow with Rohit Sharma retiring out. However, Suryakumar anchored the innings before a quickfire 33 not out by Rishabh handed India victory.
After the match, India captain Rohit Sharma hailed Suryakumar and his partnership with Shreyas Iyer.
"The 30s and 40s look good, but when you get past 70-80 and get a hundred as well then you're scoring those runs for the team. Good partnership with Iyer. When you are chasing a target like that anything can happen. It was not an easy target and the pitch had something for the bowlers. It was important for us to pick the right shots off the right balls," Rohit said.
India, who lead the five-match T20I series by 2-1, will take on West Indies in the fourth game on August 6 in Lauderhill.
