Why Sushmita Dev joining TMC may threaten Opposition unity

Change in Sushmita Dev's loyalties from the Congress to the Trinamool Congress has come at a time when both the parties are eyeing to form a political grouping or alliance against the BJP.

Sushmita Dev, the daughter of former Congress stalwart Santosh Mohan Dev, joined the Trinamool Congress on Monday. Sushmita Dev until now was considered a key member of Rahul Gandhi’s team in the Congress. Evidently, she headed the All India Mahila Congress. But she was sulking ever since she was sidelined and her demands not paid heed to during the Assam Assembly election in March-April this year. Sushmita Dev is a political force to reckon with in the Barak Valley area of Assam.
