Why GodFather must work for Megastar Chiranjeevi, after a spectacular flop in Acharya
India Today
Megastar Chiranjeevi will be seen next in Mohan Raja's GodFather. After the debacle of Acharya, the Khaidi No 150 star is banking on his upcoming film.
After a brief stint in politics, Megastar Chiranjeevi made his comeback with Khaidi No 150, directed by VV Vinayak. The film turned out to be a blockbuster and became the second-highest-grossing Telugu film of 2017. For the unversed, Khaidi No 150 is the official Telugu remake of Thalapathy Vijay's Kaththi. After Khaidi No 150.
Chiranjeevi had two releases after Khaidi No 150. Though the films, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Acharya, were mounted on a huge scale, the films failed to make a mark commercially. Now, Chiranjeevi is in need of a hit. Which is why all eyes are currently on Chiranjeevi's next, GodFather, announced on July 4. Will GodFather turn the tide for Chiranjeevi?
With Khaidi No 150, Megastar Chiranjeevi proved that the boss is back. Soon after that, he invested all his time, energy and money in an ambitious project like Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. The period film, inspired by the life of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, was pegged as a pan-India film in 2019. Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan (producer of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy) toured different cities to promote the film. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy earned profits, but the margin wasn't as big as Khaidi No 150.
After Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Chiranjeevi joined hands with director Koratala Siva for Acharya. The film became more special after they roped in Ram Charan for a crucial role in the film.
However, Acharya turned out to be a damp squib at the box office. Distributors, who were associated with the film, started asking for compensation because of the losses they incurred. This came as a huge blow to Chiranjeevi's career, which seems to be sinking one film at a time.
Now, Chiranjeevi has pinned all his hopes on his upcoming film, GodFather. Directed by Mohan Raja, the film is an official remake of the Malayalam superhit venture, Lucifer, which marked Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial debut. Lucifer featured Mohanlal, Vivek Oberoi, Manju Varrier, Tovino Thomas and Indrajith Sukumaran in important roles.
After Acharya's fate, Megastar Chiranjeevi badly needs a hit now and GodFather is one film that could turn things for good.
