Last month, news reports came in that the name of well-known poet Akbar Allahabadi has been changed to Akbar Prayagraji on the website of the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Service Commission (UPHESC). No one had an iota of doubt that the government might have done it. The rationale behind such thinking was that the name of Allahabad was changed to Prayagraj by the Yogi Adityanath government.
The general perception is that the Yogi government is on a name-changing spree. Hence, people thought it might have done it. But later on, UPHESC Chairman Ishwar Sharan Vishwakarma said that the website was hacked and the names of three poets changed. The original names were restored.
