Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Today is a historic moment for Jawaharlal Nehru University, as the university will have its first woman Vice-Chancellor. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has been appointed as the new VC of JNU, as per the Ministry of Education officials.
Outgoing Vice-Chancellor Professor M Jagdesh Kumar said “It gives me pleasure to inform you that Professor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit from the Department of Politics and Public Administration, Savitribai Phule Pune University, has been appointed as the next vice-chancellor of JNU. She is the first woman vice-chancellor of JNU.”
M Jagdesh Kumar has now been appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission.
Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit in St Petersberg, Russia (USSR), on July 15, 1962. She started her career in the field of teaching in 1988 at Goa University, and in 1993, she moved to Pune University.
Ms Pandit holds M Phil and PhD degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is also a member of several prestigious organisations, such as the American Studies Research Institute, Hyderabad, the Indian Association of American Studies, the All India Political Science Association, the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, the Indian Secular Society, etc.
It is said that Ms Pandit is multilinguistic in nature, as she can speak English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Sanskrit, and Telugu. She also authored books like ‘Parliament and Foreign Policy in India’ (1990) and ‘Restructuring Environmental governance in Asia-Ethics and Policy’ 2003.
