Silambarasan AKA Simbu is celebrating his 39th birthday today, February 3. The actor par excellence is one of the few stars who got embroiled in controversy after controversy throughout his career. But, he did not let anything get in the way of his stardom. Simbu enjoys a huge fan base despite not having a single release for years together.
In this week's Throwback Thursday, let us revisit the time when Simbu spoke about his relationship with Dhanush and their rivalry. Back in the 2000s, Dhanush and Simbu were considered rivals. Both of them were huge and upcoming stars, waiting to reach the pinnacle of stardom.
In a throwback interview, Simbu had opened up about his equation with Dhanush and their rivalry. Apart from being rivals, Simbu and Dhanush share a great camaraderie. Several years ago, they used to hang out with each other and have fun.
Simbu called Dhanush his good friend and revealed that there were no issues between them. He said, "Many people think that Dhanush is my rival and we have issues between us. Frankly speaking, it is not true. I am a jolly man and everyone knows about me. Dhanush is a good friend. We interact well and there are no issues between us."
Addressing the rivalry between them, Simbu said, "Friendship is different and cinema is different. When it comes to our profession, he is my opponent. I fight against them in cinema, which is how we can grow. When his Polladhavan became a hit, I don't know whether he was happy or not, but I felt happy because it inspired me to give a bigger hit than that. And when my film becomes successful, it should motivate him to do a better film than mine."
Here's a clip of the interview:
While Dhanush climbed the ladder of success gradually, Simbu's career went downhill with multiple delays, and offers began to dry up. Simbu's last few films failed to do well at the box office too.
