Did you know Akshay Kumar had auditioned for Deepak Tijori's role in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and got rejected? We tell you all about it in today's edition of Tuesday Trivia.
Akshay Kumar is one of the busiest actors in the film industry. We are eight months into the year and three of his films have already released. His upcoming film, OTT release Cuttputlli with Rakul Preet Singh, is all set to release on September 2 on Disney+ Hotstar. While Akshay is now a Bollywood A-lister, his initial days in the industry were no cakewalk. Did you know he couldn’t crack Deepak Tijori’s role in Aamir Khan’s 1992 film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar? Ahead of his upcoming release, we bring to you, an unknown Akshay Kumar fact in today’s edition of Tuesday Trivia.
Akshay Kumar is one of the most sought-after actors in Bollywood. Though Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj and Raksha Bandhan, we do have some hopes from his next film, Cuttputlli. It was in 1991 when the actor got his first break as the male lead in Saugandh. However, did you know he had auditioned for Deepak Tijori’s role in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992) and got rejected? During a throwback interview with Mid-Day, he spoke about the rejection. He said, “Apna screen test diya maine, for Deepak Tijori’s role. And they didn’t like it. And, apparently, I was crap, so they removed me."
Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar director Mansoor reacted to Akshay Kumar’s statement on getting rejected for Deepak Tijori’s role in the film. The veteran filmmaker told Bollywood Hungama, “What Akshay has said about him being thrown out of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander surprised me. I am sorry I rejected him. But I am amazed at the career that he has. At the time that we screen-tested him, he was very very wooden. He had a great physique. But that’s it. The way he has spoken about being rejected is very derogatory and condescending. Akshay had even called me after being rejected saying. ‘Let’s work together.’ I never said he was crap."
Career-wise, 2022 hasn’t been a good one for Akshay Kumar. His first theatrical release of the year, Bachchhan Paandey was a box office disaster. This was followed by his last two releases, Samrat Prithviraj and Raksha Bandhan, which were complete BO duds. His next film, Cuttputlli with Rakul Preet Singh releases on Disney+ Hotstar. His last release of the year, Ram Setu with Jacqueline Fernandez, will see the light of the day on October 24, 2022.
