West Indies vs England: Jason Holder picked up 4 wickets in 4 balls to join an elite list as he helped West Indies defend a 180-run target in the 5th and final match of the T20I series in Barbados.
Jason Holder became the first West Indies bowler to take a hat-trick inT20I cricket as he inspired the hosts to a 17-run victory over England in the final T20I of a 5-match series in Barbados on Monday. By winning a thrilling finale, West Indies went on to win the T20I series 3-2.
Defending 20 runs in the final over, Jason Holder picked up 4 wickets in as many balls, conceding just 2 runs. He got the wickets of big-hitting Chris Jordan, Sam Billings, Adil Rashid and tail-ender Saqib Mahmood to bowl out England for 162 after West Indies posted 179 on the board.
Jason Holder also became only the 4th bowler in the history of T20I cricket to pick up 4 wickets in as many balls. He joins an elite list that has former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga, Ireland's Curtis Campher and Afghanistan star Rashid Khan.
Holder did not get a chance to go for five wickets in five balls with no England batters left. The allrounder finished with 5-27 from 2.5 overs.
Jason Holder said he is gaining in confidence as a T20I bowler and captain Kieron Pollard's decision to hand him the final over on Monday only boosted his mojo.
"A lot of hard work, can improve on my death bowling, add some variations. But I'm gaining confidence and so is the captain in me. Bowling the last over tonight just added to it, I'm happy that I was given the responsibility," Holder said after collecting the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series Awards.
James Vince top-scored for England with 55 off 35 but was one of left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein's four wickets after holing out. Hosein took 4-30 from four overs.
