West Indies have named their white-ball squads for their home series against Bangladesh. Nicholas Pooran, who captained on the tour of Pakistan, has been retained as their skipper. Even as Rovman Powell has been named as the vice-captain for the T20I series, Shai Hope will be Pooran’s deputy in the ODIs.
After performing well for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Obed McCoy made a comeback to the T20I team. Bowling all-rounder Keemo Paul and veteran wicketkeeper Devon Thomas have also forced their way back into the T20I team. The left-arm spinner, Gudakesh Motie, in the meantime, has earned his maiden ODI call-up.
Lead selector Desmond Haynes said that the squads have been picked, keeping in mind the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.
“We know Rovman’s history. He has captained the West Indies before and is also the captain of his CPL franchise. Our role is to look at future leaders as well and we have identified a few, including himself, who we will be putting programmes around to ensure we keep them involved in that aspect of cricket,” Haynes said.
The T20I series is set to start on July 2 with Dominica and Guyana being the hosts. The three ODIs will take place from July 10 at the Guyana Stadium.
On Monday, June 27, West Indies beat Bangladesh 2-0 in the two-match series. In the final Test in St Lucia, the Caribbean team defeated Shakib Al Hasan and Co. by 10 wickets.
