West Bengal: Voting underway in Darjeeling, Siliguri and 6 municipal seats

The voting for the elections to the Gorkha Territorial Administration in West Bengal's Drajeeling along with Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad is underway. As many as 6.32 lakh voters will vote in the elections.
The voting for the elections to the Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) in Darjeeling began on Sunday along with polls in 22 gram panchayats under the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad in North Bengal. Along with Darjeeling’s curtailed Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) election, six municipal wards in the districts of North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Purulia are also going for bypolls on Sunday.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in all the districts.
Voting for 45 seats in Gorkhaland Territorial Administration started at 7 am and so far, the polling has been peaceful. The Hamro Party, which came to power in Darjeeling municipality for the first time, has fielded candidates in all the 45 seats. On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress has fielded 10 candidates, followed by CPM (12) and Congress (5).
GTA has 45 seats, and is spread across the Kalimpong district, and Darjeeling, Mirik and Kurseong sub-divisions of the Darjeeling district.
The elections to the GTA, the semi-autonomous council that governs the Darjeeling Hills, are being held after a decade. As many as 6.32 lakh voters will vote in the elections.
Apart from this, polling is underway in Ward 8 of Panihati Municipality; Ward 3 of Bhatpara Municipality, Ward 29 of South Dumdum Municipality; Ward 4 of Dumdum Municipality; Ward 2 of Jhalda Municipality and Ward 17 of Chandannagar Municipality.
