West Bengal: Fresh violence erupted in Murshidabad over Prophet row; Section 144 imposed

Protestors ransacked and looted shops and houses in West Bengal's Murshidabad over the Prophet row. Police resorted to hurling tear gas bombs and lathi-charge to disperse the mob.
Fresh violence was reported in Murshidabad's Shaktipur on Sunday evening over the Prophet row. Shaktipur turned into a battlefield as the protesters allegedly ransacked and looted some shops and houses. Police teams rushed to the spot and hurled tear gas. They eventually resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the mob.
Amid the tense situation in Murshidabad, the police have decided to strengthen peace-maintaining exercises in the district. The West Bengal government has imposed Section 144 till midnight of June 15 in the Beldanga area in the wake of the violence that erupted in many parts of the district.
Meanwhile, police were seen taking stock of the situation in the violence-torn areas of Rejinagar and Beldanga on Sunday.
