Lok Sabha Member Kanimozhi Karunanidhi distributes ₹3.21 crore in welfare assistance at Thoothukudi event.
Lok Sabha Member Kanimozhi Karunanidhi distributed welfare assistance worth ₹3.21 crore at an event held at the district Collectorate in Thoothukudi on Thursday.
The event included the distribution of medical equipment worth ₹2.28 crore to 180 welfare centres in Thoothukudi and Kovilpatti health districts, ₹67.18 lakh three wheel scooters to 66 differently abled beneficiaries, and also issued land ownerships worth ₹54.02 lakh to 93 beneficiaries under the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Kanimozhi said that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was implementing various pioneering schemes aimed at benefiting the poor and underprivileged in the State. She added that welfare assistance distributed today was under three such schemes. More than 400 people have applied for petrol scooters with side wheels, and the next phase of distribution will be carried out soon.
It was during late leader Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s tenure that a separate department was created for the differently abled and operated under his visionary leadership. “Similarly today, our Chief Minister is overseeing the department for the differently abled under his direct supervision,” she added.
Thoothukudi District Collector K. Elambahavath, Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Minister P. Geetha Jeevan, District Revenue Officer A. Ravichandran, Thoothukudi Corporation Mayor Jegan Periyasamy and other officials were present at the event.
