Environment Canada's forecast for Vancouver predicts sun Friday through Monday, with temperatures expected to reach 22 C near the water. For those further inland, it could get up to 26 C.
Other parts of the province are expected to be even warmer. In Kelowna, for example, temperatures could reach 27 C on Saturday while in Pemberton it could get as hot as 29 C.
Last Friday, officials warned about this weekend's heat event, saying it'll be the first of what's expected to be another record-hot summer.
Warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Armel Castellan, said during a seasonal update that B.C. residents should expect a drier-than-normal June.
"It's pretty obvious to the modelling—globally and locally—that we're looking at a likely warmer than normal summer period," he said last Friday, singling out Haida Gwaii and parts of the Vancouver Island as places that may see near-normal temperatures. "Strong heat events may be more of an Interior issue."
No heat warnings have been issued for the weekend, which officials say happens when temperatures are expected to be "well above seasonal" for two days or longer. Environment Canada's historical data for Vancouver shows the average high temperature for June 7 is 18.4 C.
