Weekend mediation fails to avert transit strike, paralyzing Vancouver bus service
BNN Bloomberg
Vancouverites who rely on the bus or the SeaBus for their morning commute are set to be met with picket lines Monday morning after weekend negotiations between transit supervisors and the Coast Mountain Bus Company failed to make a deal.
Picket lines will be up around the city after the company and roughly 180 transit supervisors represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 4500 couldn't come to a deal.
CUPE 4500 says members will be withdrawing all services from Coast Mountain Bus Company for 48 hours starting at 3:00 a.m.
Bus company president Michael McDaniel says the union has refused to adjust its demand for wage increases despite efforts to reach a compromise.
