We want Akhilesh Yadav to be Leader of Opposition in UP, says SP leader Lalji Verma

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Samajwadi Party leader Lalji Verma said the party wants Akhilesh Yadav to be the Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh.
Lalji Verma, a senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, welcomed party chief Akhilesh Yadav's decision to resign from his membership of the Lok Sabha and retain his seat in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
Further, Lalji Verma told India Today in an exclusive interview that the party wants Akhilesh Yadav to be the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
Ram Govind Chaudhary of the Samajwadi Party served as the Leader of the Opposition from 2017 to 2022.
Meanwhile, Shivpal Yadav, who contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh election in alliance with the Samajwadi Party, was reportedly not called for the party's legislative meeting and is upset over the same.
On Tuesday, Akhilesh Yadav went to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's office on Tuesday to resign from his membership of the House.
Akhilesh Yadav, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Azamgarh constituency in 2019.
He defeated the BJP's SP Singh Baghel in Karhal during the recently held Uttar Pradesh Assembly election by more than 60,000 votes to become the MLA from the constituency.
