Severe cold grips Himachal, Uttarakhand, J&K as snowfall hits, orange alert issued, residents share struggles with plummeting temperatures.
Several parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir brace for severe cold as snowfall and rain sweep through the region. The weather office has issued an orange alert for Himachal’s Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, and Mandi districts, warning of biting cold for four days starting Monday.
Residents of Shimla share their struggles with the plummeting temperatures, eagerly awaiting snowfall to ease the chill. Meanwhile, Dehradun and Srinagar also witness a sharp dip in temperatures, with Srinagar recording a freezing low of -7°C. In Kashmir, the harsh winter phase of Chillai Kalan has begun, signaling peak snowfall season.
During the summer season, as mercury levels went up, beans touched one of its all-time highs with a kilogram of the vegetable costing over ₹200 per kg in retail markets. While farmers reported that they only got 30-40% of their usual yield, supply in markets had dropped by 70%. Beans continued to sell at over ₹100 per kg for a few months before it came down to ₹40 - 50 per kg.
