Former England Test captain Joe Root received a standing ovation in the longroom by his teammates after he helped his team beat New Zealand by five wickets at the Lord's on Sunday.
Root played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 115 runs off 170 balls, guiding England to their season's first victory and taking an early lead of 1-0 in the three-Test match series against New Zealand.

The 31-year-old former captain became the 14th player and second Englishman to complete 10,000 runs in the longest format of the game. He achieved the milestone on Day 4 of the first Test. Root registered his 26th Test hundred and along the way reached 10,000 Test runs.
Only Alastair Cook (12472) has more runs than Root for England. The most Test runs chart is led by Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar (15921).
