Newfoundland and Labrador's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, is holding an unplanned media briefing to discuss COVID-19.
The 2 p.m. NT briefing will be streamed live on the provincial government's YouTube page.
No details were given on the reason for the unscheduled update, beyond it being "to discuss COVID-19 public health guidance," according to a release from the Department of Health.
The province had 101 active cases as of Wednesday, according to the last provincial government update, delivered via email. According to an Eastern Health update Thursday, there were 76 cases connected to the Marystown cluster, with 52 of the cases under the age of 20.
The outbreak has closed two schools to in-person learning: Donald C. Jamieson Academy in Burin Bay Arm, and Sacred Heart Academy in Marystown. Both schools serve students from kindergarten to Grade 7.
Sixteen people have died of the virus in Newfoundland and Labrador since the pandemic began.
