Ward 5 city councillor Maureen Cassidy has announced that she will not seek reelection in October.
The announcement came just hours before the final deadline for nominations. Candidates have until 2 p.m. Friday to file their papers.
In a written statement, Cassidy said deciding not to run again was a difficult decision.
She said she felt a strong desire to stay on, "but for democracy to be effective … it is necessary to hear new perspectives and points of view."
Cassidy has spent two terms on council and did a stint as deputy mayor.
She said representing the residents of Ward 5 has been "one of the greatest and most humbling experiences" of her life.
Cassidy said she will complete her term on council, which ends when the new city council is sworn in after the election.
Two candidates, Connor Pierotti and Jerry Pribil, have registered to run in Ward 5.
Londoners go to the polls on October 24.
