After removing barricades and barbed wires from farmers' protest sites at the Ghazipur and Tikri borders, Delhi Police said that it wanted to “create a positive atmosphere” for people who had been “facing a lot of problems”. Due to farmers protest on road, barricades continued which affected the interstate travel of people & commercial vehicles. "General public who travel on regular basis was facing a lot of problems due to this, so we decided to open the borders for the sake of their convenience,” Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said as quoted by news agency ANI.
