Wall Street Journal Skewers Trump’s Tariffs Chaos As A Triple Whammy For Americans

“Welcome to the new tariff economy..." wrote the newspaper's conservative editorial board.
The Wall Street Journal issued a scathing assessment of President Donald Trump’s ever-shifting trade policy, warning that American consumers are now facing a triple whammy under his tariff plan.
In an editorial titled “Trump’s Exceptional Tariff Weekend,” published Sunday, the newspaper’s conservative editorial board outlined what it called a “confusing weekend” driven by the “arbitrary nature of Trump trade policy.”
The chaos began with an announcement of tariff exemptions for the importation of electronics including smartphones and laptops. That was followed by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick revealing that those same tariffs would soon rise again. On Sunday, Trump contradicted both positions by declaring on social media that “NOBODY is getting ‘off the hook.’”
“So what happened and what’s the real policy? Who knows?” the board wrote.
The Journal concluded with a stark warning: “Welcome to the new tariff economy, where you still pay onerous taxes, endure punishing regulation, and now must also navigate the political minefield of arbitrary tariffs.”
