'Vulture politics': TMC hits back at BJP over singer KK's death

After the BJP held TMC responsible for singer KK's death on May 31, the ruling party in Bengal has accused the saffron party of engaging in 'vulture politics'.
After the BJP accused TMC of 'administrative failure' over the death of singer KK in Kolkata on May 31, the Mamata-led ruling party has hit back.
All India Trinamool Congress spokesperson Shashi Panja slammed the BJP for 'politicising' the death of KK. "We extend our condolences to the fans and families of our dear singer KK. BJP is back to vulture politics. We condemn that BJP is once again resorting to such cheap politics," she said.
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim of the TMC added, "The thing is, since they kill people in Gujarat and UP, they only indulge in politics of killing. A person can fall sick -- it is unfortunate and extremely tragic that such a person has lost his life. To indulge in politics over such a death is abominable. BJP is like a vulture, they look for deaths to use for politics. We want to stand by the family, CM gave him state honours."
It has been alleged that the hall where KK performed right before he collapsed was overpacked and extremely hot. Further, the air conditioner was not working properly. On this, Firhad Hakim said, "These auditoriums are present for use of cultural events. We want more such cultural events as Kolkata is the cultural capital of the country. All such venues are checked and audits are conducted regularly. Whenever I hold meetings, I enquire about the maintenance of Nazrul Manch [venue for KK's last concert]. In fact, CM regularly holds events there, and I don't think there was any fault at the venue."
It was also reported that fans without tickets lined up outside the venue of KK's concert in Kolkata on May 31 and a fire extinguisher was sprayed to disperse the crowd.
On this, Hakim said, "We have no such report. There was no such situation. Generally when a college function takes place, kids do get excited."
While BJP MP Dilip Ghosh called the death of KK a ‘murder’, BJP Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar said it was a ‘total administrative failure’. Ghosh even accused the TMC-led students’ union which organised the show of forcing the singer to perform despite being unwell.
