India Today
The Volkswagen Polo Legend edition marks the end of the premium hatchback's 12-year run in the Indian market. The Polo Legend will be sold in limited numbers and is based on the GT TSI variant.
There are few vehicles that have shaped the Indian automotive industry like the Volkswagen Polo has. The hatchback made its debut in 2010 and was the German brand’s first locally manufactured car. The premium hatch found favour amongst the masses as well as enthusiasts in India. It is now reaching the end of its production run, and to celebrate its 12-year journey in India, VW has unveiled the Polo Legend Edition as a last hurrah for the hatchback.
“The Volkswagen Polo is an iconic carline that has evoked various emotions amongst consumers. From its market introduction till date, the Volkswagen Polo has enjoyed the privilege of being the first car to a family, an enthusiast’s dream and the preferred choice for a mother owing to its timeless and sporty design, safety, fun-to-drive experience and strong build quality. The Volkswagen Polo has been the brand's much-loved product that deserves a grand celebration. For this, the brand is introducing the celebratory limited ‘Legend edition’ for the enthusiasts who will take pride in owning the last limited units of the iconic Polo”, said Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India.
The Volkswagen Polo Legend Edition is the last iteration of the fifth generation Polo that will ever be released, and to make it special, VW has put ‘Legend’ lettering on the fender and bootlid. Extra bits of side body graphics, and black spoiler on bootlid are also part of the list of cosmetic enhancements.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Polo Legend Edition is mechanically the same as the GT TSI variant. This means you get a 3-cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 110bhp and 175Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed torque converter, sending power to the front wheels.
To give the Legend Edition some extra recognition, Volkswagen is only going to produce 700 units of these. With over 3 lakh customers in India, the Polo defined and laid the foundations for the German automaker while creating a fanbase of its own, especially amongst the enthusiast community. Volkswagen Polo GT TSI is priced at Rs 10.25 lakh (ex-showroom), so expect the Legend Edition to carry a similar price tag as well.
