“The telecom industry will further ignite the digital dreams of 1.3 billion Indians and many 1000s of enterprises. It will also set the stage for the country to become a $5 trillion economy in the next few years, with a trillion-dollar contribution by the digital economy itself,” he said.
The executive asserted that Vodafone Idea currently has a 240 million user base, out of which 50 per cent are in rural areas. As of now, the telecom operator hasn’t revealed any details on when it plans to release 5G in India.
Airtel, on the other hand, has announced that 5G services will be rolled out today in 8 cities. The company’s chairman, Sunil Mittal, hasn’t revealed the names of all the cities, but he did confirm that Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Varanasi will get 5G today. The company said that 5G will be available all over India by March 2024.
Reliance Jio will begin the rollout of 5G by Diwali, which is something that the company announced earlier. RIL’s chairman Mukesh Ambani today promised that Jio 5G plans will be available in India at the lowest rates compared to any other telecom service in the world. Ambani announced that Jio 5G services will reach all cities and villages by December 2023.
The 5G network is believed to augment services at scale and create a big impact in critical areas like industry 4.0, and automated manufacturing to create the connected factory smart cities, smart automobiles, smart homes, immersive gaming, and other innovative business and consumer solutions. The 5G services will also help accelerate immersive education, remote health and smart agriculture to enable inclusive growth and prosperity in rural India.
