The United States imposed sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s daughters. But there is little information about the Putin family. Here is all that we know about the elusive sisters — Maria and Katerina — who are allegedly hiding Putin’s wealth.
The two women — Maria Vladimirovna Vorontsova and Katerina Vladimirovna Tikhonova — are in their mid-thirties. Both are daughters of Putin’s first wife, Lyudmila Putina.

Maria Vladimirovna Vorontsova (36), the elder sister, is a paediatric endocrinologist. She studied biology at St Petersburg University and medicine at Moscow State University, according to a Reuters investigation. She is involved in genetics research, which Putin has in the past described as a field that will "determine the future of the whole world”.
Maria is the co-owner of Nomenko, a multi-million dollar medical firm. She specialises in rare diseases in children. She married Dutch businessman Joost Faassen but the current status of this relationship is unknown.
Katerina Vladimirovna Tikhonova is a 35-year-old tech executive. She used to be an acrobatic dancer and participated in several contests. Her net worth is reported to be USD 2 billion. In 2020, she was appointed to run an artificial intelligence institute at Moscow State University.
