Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner emphasizes cybercrime awareness at GVL Sankranti event, urging public vigilance against fraud.
Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi has stressed the importance of public awareness of cybercrime.
Speaking at an awareness programme on financial literacy and cybersecurity, held as part of the annual ‘GVL Sankranti Sambaralu’, which began on AU Engineering College grounds here on Sunday, January 12, he warned smartphone users against answering calls from unknown numbers.
The police chief advised schools and colleges to devote some time to teaching students about issues related to society, such as the ill effects of cybercrime, so that they can, in turn, educate their parents and families about them. He said that the police department always supports social awareness.
The ‘GVL Sankranti Sambaralu’ will continue till January 15, said former MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao, adding that the event would be held every year.
Mr. Narasimha Rao said that the cybercrime awareness programme focused on solutions and preventive measures in the background of increasing cases of cyber frauds in the city.
He added that reputed bankers from different parts of the country also attended the event to explain the technical facts of cybercrime.
Mr. Rao said that in addition to organising festivals like this Sankranti, his team would always be available to the people and work to safeguard their interests.
