Senior virologist Shahid Jameel has resigned as the head of the scientific advisory group to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortia (INSACOG), a forum set up by the Centre to detect genomic variants of the novel coronavirus. It is not clear why Shahid Jameel, who is also the Director of Trivedi School of Biosciences at Ashoka University, quit the forum. Jameel has been critical of the government's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly during the second wave.
