Virat Kohli no longer the numero uno of Indian cricket: A mixed bag in 2021
India Today
Virat Kohli undoubtedly lost his numero uno status in Indian cricket in 2021. He quit as India's T20I captain and let go of the skipper's role in the Indian Premier League before he was sacked as ODI captain. However, the Indian Test side, under the star player, continued to be an all-conquering unit.
It is safe to say that Virat Kohli had been the most influential person in Indian cricket. The star batter was scoring international hundreds for fun and leading India in all three formats with the authority that very few Indian captains had in the past.
Kohli had a fall-out with former coach Anil Kumble in 2017, following which the legendary bowler quit the role, citing an "untenable" relationship with the captain. However, Kohli came out unscathed from the much-talked-about episode that came on the back of India losing the Champions Trophy final to Pakistan.
