Village boy from Nawada whose father sold his land to help him prepare cracks UPSC
India Today
Alok Ranjan of Nawada, whose father sold off his land to help his son prepare for the exam, cracked the UPSC civil services with Rank 346.
Alok Ranjan, a youth of Gorihari village of Nawada district's Roh block, made his district proud by bagging Rank 346 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022. His success is all the more impressive because his father even sold off their family land to help his son prepare for the prestigious exam.
Alok's father Naresh Prashad Yadav is a teacher in Akbarpur block's Middle School Nawabganj, while his mother Sushila Devi is a teacher in Roh block's primary school Kanaulia.
Alok's father, Naresh Prasad Yadav tells India Today, "We had decided at the beginning itself. Even when our financial condition was weak, I decided I would make at least one of our children prepare for UPSC."
Pointing to Sushila Devi, the wife sitting next to him, he says that this too caused a lot of trouble.
"We are both teachers. Know that anything is possible with the right upbringing. We overcame the hurdle of financial issues to make this decision a reality. We did whatever we could," he says.
He even sold a large part of his ancestral land and didn't use that money to build a house but rather invested it into his son's career.
Later, when money became tight again, he sold a valuable piece of land in Nawada. Again, the money was spent on his son's education.
