Vijayawada rings in New Year celebrations

Vijayawada celebrates New Year with music, dance shows, live concerts, and bustling liquor outlets and restaurants.
A celebratory mood was seen in every nook and corner of Vijayawada on the eve of the New Year on Tuesday, while many liquor outlets brimmed with crowds from the evening onwards.
A rush was also seen at bakeries and restaurants, while a few big apartments, all lit up, organised music and dance shows.
Owners of wine shops, which would be open till 12 a.m. on the December 31 night in accordance with the relaxations announced by the State government, said the business was way more than that on the usual days. Many restaurants and bakeries were lit up on the occasion, while rangoli (colours) and flower sellers saw brisk business. Some bakeries had set up stalls outside especially for the New Year celebrations.
A series of events have lined up to celebrate the New Year’s eve in the city, including famed composer Mani Sharma’s live concert at Babburi Gardens and singer Geetha Madhuri’s live perfomance at Murali Resorts in Poranki. Hyatt Place is having singer Bejawada Bebbakka, of Big Boss fame, and singer Vikhyat Sairam for the New Year soiree.
All these events, starting around 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, are scheduled to go on till 12 a.m. The events have entry fee ranging between ₹500 and ₹5,000.
Fishermen association members, who participated in the fishermen grievance redress meeting held at the District Collectorate in Nagercoil on Friday, sought issuance of subsidy for diesel and implementation of advanced technologies and establishment of control rooms on the shore for rescuing fishermen during emergencies at sea.
