Vijay Devarakonda should have learnt from Aamir Khan! Theatre owner blasts actor after Liger gets boycotted
India Today
Ahead of Liger release, Vijay Deverakonda shared his thoughts on the Boycott trend. After the release of Liger, a theatre owner in Mumbai slammed him, saying that he should have learnt from Aamir Khan.
Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday's Liger, which hit the theatres on August 25, left fans disappointed. The film has been receiving negative reviews from critics and the audience. Manoj Desai, a Mumbai theatre owner, lashed out at Vijay Deverakonda's 'arrogance,' and added that he should have learnt from Aamir Khan. He also felt that Liger has been boycotted because of his bold comments on the boycott trend.
Liger was one of the most-anticipated films of 2022. The film registered a grand opening by collecting Rs 33.12 crore on its first day. However, the negative word of mouth is affecting the film.
Executive Director of Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema Manoj Desai, in an interview with BollywoodLife, slammed Vijay Deverakonda for his comments. He said, "Why are you showing smartness by saying ‘Boycott our movie’? People won’t even watch on OTT. Such behaviour of yours has put us in trouble and impacted our advance bookings. Mr Vijay, you are anaconda not ‘Konda Konda’. You are talking like an anaconda. ‘Vinaash kaale vipareet buddhi’, when the time of destruction inches closer, the mind stops working, and you are doing that. Anyways, it’s your wish."
He further added that Vijay should have learnt his lesson from Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu. "Mr Vijay, it seems, you have become arrogant, ‘Watch the movie or if you don’t wish to, then don’t watch’, haven’t you seen its impact. If the audience will not watch, see what Taapsee Pannu, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar are going through. I had high expectations from the movie, but such statements during the interview had harsh impacts. One shouldn’t do this and never pay heed to hashtags," Manoj explained.
Ahead of the release of Liger, Vijay Deverakonda visited 17 cities to promote the film. During an event, he was asked about the 'Boycott trend.'
The Liger actor said, "Kaun rokenge dekh lenge. I feel that there is no room for fear, when I had nothing, I didn’t fear, and now after having achieved something, I don’t think there needs to be any fear even now. We have mother’s blessings, people’s love, God’s support, a fire inside us, we will see who will stop us!."
Written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, Liger is a sports film with Vijay Deverkaonda playing the role of an MMA artist with stammering issues. Ananya Panday played the female lead. Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy, Ali and Makarand Deshpande were seen in supporting roles.
