Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar has said that he would collaborate on multiple projects with his Vidaamuyarchi-maker Magizh Thirumeni, the director revealed on Thursday.
The director said the same in an exclusive chat with The Hindu, while opening up on the negativity that has surrounded Vidaamuyarchi.
Magizh claimed that a certain group has been spreading lies about the project out of jealousy right from the film’s inception. “Even back when we started the project, Ajith sir told me, ‘Magizh, be prepared for intense negativity.’ He said that jealous people who spread negativity are going to have a field day, and what he said has happened. However, I didn’t expect this kind of caustic, bitter jealousy. I don’t know why they do this.”
“They said — before I was announced officially as the director — that Ajith wouldn’t have chosen me for this film. When the announcement came, they said this was a mismatched combination. Then they speculated that there’s been a fallout between us. ‘Magizh is delaying the shoots and Ajith sir is pissed off’, they said. They even claimed that the film was dropped. Then the teaser came out, and it was well-received by fans and audiences. However, amidst all that, they wanted to create some momentum against the teaser, criticising how the teaser doesn’t contain any dialogues from Ajith sir.”
The director added that this mysterious group has been trying to discredit the film’s promo material. “When Sawadeeka released, it was trending on YouTube at the Number 1 spot on a national level, and yet, a small group kept criticising the track. Then the trailer came out, and the reception was tremendous. This group now had nothing to say about it because it even had a dialogue spoken by Ajith sir. Now, they are saying ‘Okay, but we are not sure if a film that’s been in the making for so long would perform well in the theatres’,” said Magizh, adding that he isn’t sure of the intentions behind such slander.
“They said we were going on a final schedule to do patchwork. In my six-film-long film career, including my debut film, I have never done patchwork. That’s how organised I am. I shoot what I require and I get done with it. They then speculated that Magizh shoots scenes, edits the clips, checks the output, and then reshoots those scenes. I have never done that. I have never come across such speculation before. I have never re-shot a shot, let alone a scene, in my whole life. If someone goes against my claim, I will quit cinema,” added Magizh.
The director assured that his relationship with Ajith, despite the distasteful rumours of a rift between them, has only been getting stronger. “He told me, ‘Magizh we are going to do many films together. This is what I told Siva; This is what I told Vinoth; and this is what I am telling you now’. He was not only aware of the negativity surrounding the project, he was also the only person, except maybe one or two others, who stood by me throughout. He said, ‘Magizh, I am standing by you all the way; ignore such negativity. I have seen your work and I know your work.” Magizh added that even if the trolls keep at it, he will continue making his films. “They can’t do anything to my creativity and output.”
