Six people who were found dead inside two houses in Jammu were suffering from depression and died of drugs overdose, said police.
Jammu Police has solved the case involving the recovery of six bodies from two houses in the Tawi Vihar area on August 16, stating that the victims died of drug overdose after they decided to end their lives due to depression.
Addressing a press conference, Jammu SSP Chandan Kohli said that one of the deceased, Noor-ul-Habib, had convinced the other five to commit suicide as the two families were under depression due to pending court cases and medical reasons.
“According to the investigation, Habib moved to Jammu in 1997. He used to financially help his neighbour Sakeena, who worked as a domestic help at his home. Sakeena was facing several court cases due to a land dispute in Doda district and two of her children were specially-abled. After appearing in a court case in the first week of August, Habib convinced Sakeena, her daughter Rubeena and grandson Sajad Ali to end their lives," Kohli said.
The police said that on August 4, after appearing in a case along with Sajad and Sakeena, Noor-ul-Habib feared that he would be convicted in a case and he told one of the relatives that it was better to end life than face the sentence. He convinced Sakeena, Rubeena and Sajad, who were very dependent on him, to end their lives.
“They started working on the plan to end their lives on August 5 by bringing cannulas, drips and medicines from chemist shops and deactivating the CCTV the next day. The services of health worker Sanjeev Kumar, who was known to Habib, were utilised to fix the cannulas on all of them, while plumber Vijay Kumar was asked to dig a pit in Sakeena's house," the SSP said.
The health worker and plumber had been arrested for not informing police on time, which could have saved their lives.
