Very disturbing: Harsha Bhogle slams England media’s coverage of Deepti-Charlie run-out incident
India Today
Deepti Sharma was a recipient of severe criticism after she ran Charlie Dean out in the third ODI between India Women and England Women at Lord's Cricket Ground.
Veteran sports journalist Harsha Bhogle, on Friday, September 30, lashed out at England for their culture after Deepti Sharma faced flak for running out Charlie Dean during India’s third ODI at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The run out turned out to be crucial in the context of the game as India picked up the last wicket to secure themselves a six-run win at Home of Cricket. Dean and Davies had put on a handy partnership and took the home team ever so close to victory.
However, Deepti took the bails off at the non-striker’s end in her delivery stride after Dean backed up a little too much. Thereafter, Harmanpreet Kaur backed Deepti, who later said that Dean was given plenty of warnings.
However, the England skipper, Heather Knight, who is recovering from a hip injury, lashed out at Team India for ‘lying’ about the dismissal.
Bhogle clearly said that Deepti doesn’t deserve to face any criticism since she played by the laws of the game. He was also surprised by the fact that the England media didn’t question Dean for ‘gaining an illegal advantage’.
Bhogle posted a series of tweets to express his anguish and agony.
