Director Gautham Vasudev Menon made a comeback with STR AKA Simbu-starrer Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. The film opened to good word-of-mouth reviews on September 15. It had a great start at the box office. The film is now inching towards Rs 100 crore at the box office worldwide. During the weekdays, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu has been witnessing a gradual decline in collections. However, reports suggest that the film will pick up pace as there are no big releases this week.
Simbu's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu hit the theatres on September 15 amid much fanfare. Since then, there has been an increase in the number of shows across Tamil Nadu. The film marked the third collaboration of Simbu and Gautham Menon. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu got off to a flying start at the box office on its first day. Simbu's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu successfully completed a week in theatres. Though there are six new releases in Tamil, they are not big enough to compete with collections of Simbu's film. On Day 8, September 22, the film added Rs 1.20 crore approx to its total collection. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu has been allotted maximum number of screens in Tamil Nadu. Next week, Dhanush's Naane Varuven and Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan will take over.

The gangster film features Silambarasan and Siddhi Idnani in lead roles with Radikaa Sarathkumar, Siddique, Neeraj Madhav and Aangelia Abraham were seen in supporting roles. The film has music composed by AR Rahman.
The story revolves around Muthuveeran, a graduate from rural Tamil Nadu, who comes to Mumbai to earn money for his struggling family, consisting of his mother and younger sister. It follows him and the dark underworld of Mumbai, where people like Muthu are ordered to kill others for a livelihood. The film portrays Muthuveeran's life, from a struggling young man to becoming a much feared and respected gangster.
