Varsha B. wins The Hindu in School Speed Reading Contest 2024; students urged to develop multiple skills for success.
Varsha B., a class IX student from RNS Vidyaniketan School, Hubballi, emerged the winner of The Hindu in School (THIS) Speed Reading Contest 2024 held at Chetan Public School in Hubballi on Tuesday.
Shreyas R., a class IX student from JSS Manjunatheshwar Central School, Dharwad, and Pavani Dharwad of Chetan Public School, Hubballi, bagged the second and third prizes in the contest.
Zuweriya P. of RNS Vidyaniketan School, Hubballi, Saanvi Ganavari of Chinmay Vidyalay, Hubballi, and Aadhya Angadi of DK Public School, Hubballi, were awarded consolation prizes in the annual event organised by The Hindu Group of Publications.
Giving away the prizes to the winners, Managing Director of Swarnaa Group of Companies and philanthropist V.S.V. Prasad called upon students to develop the habit of participating in events that provide them with an opportunity to hone their skills.
“This is an era of cut-throat competition and you require multiple skills to excel in your chosen field. Apart from academics, take interest in sports and other extracurricular activities as it will help you in your overall personality development,” he told the students.
Lauding The Hindu initiative, he said that students should learn to grab every opportunity given to them and put themselves to various tests.
“Participation in an event is a steppingstone towards learning new things and developing one’s skill sets. While every event will have a winner, one should remember that participation itself will give you exposure to new things, new experience and lessons to learn,” he said.
Fishermen association members, who participated in the fishermen grievance redress meeting held at the District Collectorate in Nagercoil on Friday, sought issuance of subsidy for diesel and implementation of advanced technologies and establishment of control rooms on the shore for rescuing fishermen during emergencies at sea.
