Villagers in Vadugapatti face isolation due to lack of right turn on new highway, impacting daily life.
Villagers of Vadugapatti in Watrap taluk feel that their village might get isolated with the new fourway highway being laid on Tirumangalam-Sengottai stretch without an opening in the concrete median for them to take right turn from the highway to enter the village from Srivilliputtur and from the village towards Madurai.
Though the village has got only some 100 families living, Vadugapatti being the head village for the panchayat, scores of people from other villages like Kalathur, Nagalapuram and Alagapuri come to the office of village administrative officer at Vadugapatti.
It is easier from people coming from Madurai side to easily take a left turn to get into Vadugapatti. Similarly, it is smooth for people leaving the village for Srivilliputtur with a left turn.
The problem comes when they come from Srivilliputtur and when they need to go to Madurai side.
“At present, there is an opening in the median near the village as the road work is underway. But, the NHAI officials are planning to close it after the works are completed,” said the community head, R. Marisamy.
When this opening was not provided for few weeks a month back, even the town bus which comes to the village twice a day suspended the service.
For, to take a right turn into the village or to come out, the vehicles had go upto Alagapuri for three km. Similarly, on the other direction, they had to go upto Nathampatti for 2.5 km.
