V. Joy is CPI(M) Thiruvananthapuram district secretary, eight fresh faces in district committee

CPI(M) district conference re-elects V. Joy as secretary, introduces new members to district committee and State conference delegates.
The district conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], which concluded here on Saturday, elected V. Joy, MLA, the district secretary for a second term.
The conference, which elected Mr. Joy unanimously, also included eight fresh faces in the 46-member district committee as well as elected 32 delegates for the party’s State conference.
Mr. Joy has in the past served as the district president and secretary of the Students Federation of India (SFI), the district vice-president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat member, Azhoor panchayat president, and Chirayinkeezh block panchayat president. He is currently serving his second term as the MLA from the Varkala constituency.
He was elevated as the district secretary last year after the party’s State Committee removed the previous secretary Anavoor Nagappan mid-way through his term.
The newly included members of the district committee are MLAs V.K. Prasanth, G. Stephen and O.S. Ambika, Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran, R.P. Sivaji, Sreeja Shaijudev, V. Anoop and Vandithadam Madhu.
More than 2.6 lakh village and ward volunteers in Andhra Pradesh, once celebrated as the government’s grassroots champions for their crucial role in implementing welfare schemes, are now in a dilemma after learning that their tenure has not been renewed after August 2023 even though they have been paid honoraria till June 2024. Disowned by both YSRCP, which was in power when they were appointed, and the current ruling TDP, which made a poll promise to double their pay, these former volunteers are ruing the day they signed up for the role which they don’t know if even still exists
