CPI(M) district conference re-elects V. Joy as secretary, introduces new members to district committee and State conference delegates.
The district conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], which concluded here on Saturday, elected V. Joy, MLA, the district secretary for a second term.
The conference, which elected Mr. Joy unanimously, also included eight fresh faces in the 46-member district committee as well as elected 32 delegates for the party’s State conference.
Mr. Joy has in the past served as the district president and secretary of the Students Federation of India (SFI), the district vice-president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat member, Azhoor panchayat president, and Chirayinkeezh block panchayat president. He is currently serving his second term as the MLA from the Varkala constituency.
He was elevated as the district secretary last year after the party’s State Committee removed the previous secretary Anavoor Nagappan mid-way through his term.
The newly included members of the district committee are MLAs V.K. Prasanth, G. Stephen and O.S. Ambika, Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran, R.P. Sivaji, Sreeja Shaijudev, V. Anoop and Vandithadam Madhu.

It is not often that an election in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation makes much news outside Kerala or even the capital. But the elections in 2020 were different as it culminated in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]’s Arya Rajendran becoming the youngest Mayor of the Corporation at the age of 21, an event which got attention far and wide. Now, five years later, an old tweet on that election by another young person in the running to be the Mayor of New York has gone viral.
