Uttarakhand to get new CM today: Who are the top contenders?
India Today
The BJP is set to hold a meeting of its state legislature at the party HQ in Dehradun to decide who will replace Trivendra Singh Rawat as chief minister of Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand is likely to have a new chief minister later today less than 24 hours after CM Trivendra Singh Rawat tendered his resignation. Rawat's decision to vacate the chief minister's post did not come as a surprise amid reports of apprehensions about his style of functioning within the BJP's state unit. Trivendra Singh Rawat's substitute will be decided at a state legislature party meeting at the BJP headquarters in Dehradun later today. The BJP's national vice president Raman Singh, a former chief minister of Jharkhand, will chair the crucial meeting. The BJP came to power in the state in 2017, winning an impressive 57 seats in the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly. With nearly a year to go for the next state elections, the BJP's decision over who will take over from Trivendra Singh Rawat could determine the party's electorate fate.More Related News
