Doha: Qatar went down fighting to USA at the 11th IHF Men’s Beach Handball World Championships, losing 1:2 (18–28, 20–12 and 2–8) in a gripping opening clash at the Pingtan International Beach Sports Base in Pingtan Island, China, yesterday.
Qatar, a two-time bronze medallist at the World Championships, were hoping to get off to a winning start this time in Group D.
The first half of the match saw an aggressive start from both sides. Qatar's attack was led by Amir Nowraddine Denguir and Hani Marwan Kakhi, right from the start.
Despite their efforts, USA's Alexander Browne, Jason Borchik and Dominic Cody managed to outscore Qatar, ending the first period with a score of 28:18 in favour of the USA.
However, Qatar intensified their attack and made a brilliant comeback in the second half.
