Supreme Court had asked the centre to consider a plea for an UPSC extra attempt considering a parliamentary committee report.
UPSC extra attempt: Considering a recommendation made in a recent parliamentary committee report, Supreme Court has asked the union government to consider the representation of three UPSC aspirants who are seeking an extra attempt for the civil services main examination as they missed their exam due to being infected by Covid-19.
The report dated March 24, recommends the central government change its stance and consider the demands put forward by Civil Services Examination aspirants considering the hardships they went through during the Covid-19 period, and provide an additional attempt with corresponding age relaxation to all candidates.
The centre government had informed the Supreme Court earlier last week that an extra attempt in the UPSC CSE is not possible.
Appearing as an intervenor in the case, Advocate Prashant Bhushan informed the court about the parliamentary committee report.
When the Supreme Court bench asked the Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati who was appearing for the central government, if the government considered the report before taking the decision, she replied that she did not have instructions on this.
The bench then told the centre that it may consider the recommendation while adding that it is open for the government to change its mind.
The petitioners and interveners in the case were then asked by the supreme court to make their representation to the authority that would consider their demands in light of the report.,
