UP government to empower 24 lakh rural women through self-employment

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to empower more than 24 lakh women from rural areas in the state through self-employment.

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to empower more than 24 lakh women from villages through self-employment. For this, more than two lakh new groups will be formed which will connect the women from the rural areas with self-employment.

Earlier, a presentation was made in front of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya by the officers of the Rural Development Department in this regard.

As per the proposal, the government will send Rs 1500 crore to the accounts of 3.30 lakh groups formed in this financial year. Additionally, 1300 new producer groups are also to be formed to link the active groups with livelihood in the villages.

Officials said that a proposal has been sent for 2022-23 under the Rural Livelihood Mission. Under this, Rs 1500 crore is to be given to 3.30 self-help groups under Revolving Fund and Social Investment Fund (CIF). The number of females in each group ranges from 10 to 12. In the year 2022-23, revolving fund to two lakh groups and community investment fund to 1.19 lakh groups is set to be given.

Similarly, Aajeevika Mission has also set a target of providing equipment to 600 village organisations to promote agriculture this year. As per UP State Rural Livelihood Mission, a target has been set to form two lakh new self-help groups in this financial year. With the formation of these new groups, more than 24 lakh women are set to be added.

Importantly, work will be done to connect women joining the groups with self-employment. The action plan for formation of new groups etc. has been sent to the Central government. As soon as the approval is received, the work will be started on it.
